FEMA Opens Flooding Assistance Center in Groton

Those who suffered damage in the flooding that devastated southeastern Connecticut in March, can now meet face to face with FEMA.

The federal agency opened a Disaster Recovery Center in Groton Wednesday afternoon. FEMA representatives are available to assist New London County residents and business owners with filing disaster assistance claims, as well as answering questions about the assistance program.

Thousands in southeastern Connecticut were affected by the flooding caused by heavy rains in March. Many have still not recovered.

Anyone who suffered damage in the storms is not required to visit the Center, but must register with FEMA to initiate the claim process. That includes people who have already reported damage to a local Emergency Management Office. The sooner home or business owners register, the sooner they will be able to obtain assistance, according to a release from the town of Groton.

The Disaster Recovery Center is located at the Groton Senior Center located at 102 Newtown Road (Route 117) in Groton.

It will be open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

People can also call the FEMA assistance hotline at 1-800-621-FEMA, or log onto the FEMA website.
