Falling Glass Panels Kill Worker in Hamden

A man working for a glass distributor in Hamden is dead after massive glass panels weighing about 3,000 pounds fell on him.

Police said in a statement released on Saturday that emergency workers received a call reporting a serious personal injury at Orchard Glass Distributors Inc., at 30 Edmund Street, late Friday.

Officers arriving at the scene found firefighters treating 50-year-old Faustina Pena. He was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he died.

A preliminary investigation showed that 10 to 12 large glass panels fell from a storage rack and landed on Pena, who was working in the storage area with his brother.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Hamden police department will conduct additional investigations.
