Family of 11 Rescued From Sinking Boat in Long Island Sound

A family of 11 is safe after their boat began taking on water in the Long Island Sound on Saturday night, police said.

Rescue crews from the Norwalk Police and Fire Department helped rescue the family from the sinking boat just after 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The boat began taking on water near Shea Island, located about a mile from the shoreline.

The entire family evacuated the boat safely and was taken to Shea Island.

No one was injured, though two children were evaluated for exposure.

Officials say the group was camping and had returned to their boat to head back to shore when it sustained a mechanical issue.
