Fans Look to Score at Job Fair

Fans from all across the state lined up outside of New Britain Stadium Saturday, not looking to catch a baseball game, but  to score a job, in an ecomonmy where many job seekers seem to be striking out.

"It's tough now, you know," said Arielle McCray of New Britain who was one of the first in line for Saturday's job fair, hosted by the New Britain Rock Cats.

The Rock Cats are looking to hire between 80 and 100 people to handle everything from selling tickets to serving the hot dogs and beverages.

Cleve Ward of Hartford and others came out in large numbers to the stadium in the hopes of landing a job, even if it is only part-time.

"The job hunt its tough. It's tough. But I'm not going to give up and I guess everyone here is feeling the same way," said Ward.

The job fair, which was slated to begin at 10 a.m., started half an hour early because of the numerous people who had lined up.

"A lot of people, qualified people that got laid off and having a little bit of trouble. They're overqualified, they're having a little bit of trouble finding jobs. We're hoping to help them out," said John Willi, Rock Cats Vice President and General Manager.

For some of the job seekers, Saturday's job fair was an opportunity to find steady work in an increasingly unsteady job market.
