Feds Help Cover Home Heating Oil Costs

Members of the Connecticut congressional delegation say the federal government has released more than $9.8 million to help low-income families and seniors cover their home heating costs.

The federal lawmakers say the money represents nearly all of the Connecticut funds remaining funds for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program for this fiscal year. The state was allocated more than $77.4 million this year and received 90 percent of the funds in November.

The lawmakers say the program helps more than 100,000 Connecticut residents each year.

The funding was announced by U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal as well as U.S. Reps. Rosa DeLauro, Jim Himes, Elizabeth Esty, John Larson and Joe Courtney.
