Fender Bender Leads to Gunfire in Vernon

Police are investigating after a car tried to flee a parking lot and was shot at.

A fender bender in a parking lot in Vernon early Sunday morning led to gun fire and a police investigation.

Vernon Police patrolling the area of Kelly Road around 2 a.m. heard the sound of gunshots coming from the area of the 341 Kelly Road, the location of the Free Spirit Café.

When they responded, officers discovered a large crowd scattering from the parking lot.

Upon an investigation, Vernon Police learned that a dark colored sedan was backing out of a parking space when it hit another car, possibly a Nissan or Toyota.

The car that struck the other car continued to drive away and was trying to leave the scene when a group of people began to chase the car.

As the car fled, a male suspect began firing a semi automatic handgun at the car. The car continued to flee east bound down Kelly Road. It is believed to have sustained damage from both the gun shots and the accident.

The suspected shooter is described as a white or Hispanic male, thin build, approximately 5'10" tall. The suspect fled the scene with two other males in the dark purple or blue mid-size Foreign vehicle-possibly Toyota or Nissan, the same vehicle that had been struck in the lot. This vehicle also fled eastbound on Kelly Road.
