Wednesday is the end of this year's legislative session and it looks like it’s going to come and go without a budget.
The lawmakers worked over the weekend, so that they can get back to work in a special session. On Saturday, both chambers of the General Assembly passed resolutions authorizing a special legislative session to begin at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday.
House Majority Leader Denise Merrill said she hopes budget negotiators can then focus solely on how to deal with the state's worst fiscal crisis in years.
But without a budget deal, lawmakers will likely continue to have marathon debates over some contentious issues pushed by the Democrats.
They've already had hours-long debates over issues such as abolishing the death penalty, requiring employers to provide paid sick days and allowing people to register to vote on Election Day.
