Fire Breaks Out in Plainfield Energy Plant

Firefighters from several towns battled a blaze at a power plant in Plainfield on Sunday morning.

They responded to Plainfield Renewable Energy on Millbrook Road just after 6:30 a.m., according to the Plainfield Fire Company.

Arriving crews found a fire had broken out in racks of combustible material inside the building, fire officials said.

Plainfield Renewable Energy is a wood-burning electrical generation plant and has been in operation since 2013, according to fire officials.

One employee at the facility was treated at the scene for injuries, but refused to go to the hospital, fire officials said.

No firefighters were injured.

The fire was brought under control a little more than an hour later.

Firefighters from Plainfield, Moosup, Central Village, Jewett City, and Canterbury helped fight the fire.
