Four families are out of their homes and the morning commute was disrupted by a fire in Norwalk that caused a partial building collapse.
Frightened residents jumped from the burning building at 45 Wall St. on Friday morning and two are hospitalized after breaking bones during their escape.
Firefighters say this was a tough fire to extinguish and they were worried that the entire building would collapse.
The fire started shortly after 5 a.m. at a building that houses the former Garibaldi Mexican Grill and apartments, Westport Now reports. Officials believe the fire might have started in the restaurant, which was under new ownership and expected to open this month,
The fire was extinguished by 8:30 a.m. were displaced and the Red Cross is offering help.
Trains were suspended on the Danbury branch of the Metro-North because of the fire and buses were transporting commuters. Service resumed just before 9 a.m., but delays are expected.
