Helpless Owner Watches Business Burn

A man who has owned an auto body shop for more than 20 years could only sit and watch as his business was destroyed early Sunday morning.

The fire marshal has not said yet what ignited the flames at 2am at Auto Outlet on West Main Street in Clinton.

Deputy Chief Brian Manware said it took crews from several towns about an hour to get the fire under control.  "Initially our only concern was the aerial wires were burning off the pole and dropping of into the street, it limited our access initially till the power companies shut the power down," he said.

The building looked gutted and many cars outside were damaged.

The owner didn't want to talk much but did tell NBC Connecticut that he doesn't know what he's going to do come tomorrow morning, when he has no place to go to work.
