Firefighters responded to a fire at 30 Nutmeg Lane in East Hartford that forced 40 tenants into the cold this morning.
Officials said construction crews were working on roofing material at the apartment complex and accidentally dropped a piece of equipment into the building, which sparked the flames.
The fire is now out and no injuries are reported.
None of the apartments were damaged and the tenants were expected to be allowed to return this afternoon.
