Fire in Southington Extinnguished

Firefighters have extinguished a fire at Jitters Cafe on Queen Street in Southington.

No injuries are reported, but the back of the building is burned and the National Family Wellness Day event planned for Saturday will have to be canceled.

Shirley Bloethe, the owner of Jitters, lives two doors down from her cafe.

"Just flames, and you could see that it was engulfed completely," Bloethe said.

Police blocked off Queen Street at River Street as well as Town Line Road, and Plainville firefighters helped Southington emergency crews put out the fire.

The road reopened a few hours later.

Jitters is located at includes 1273 Queen St. and includes a coffee house and tea shop as well as a bookstore.

Boethe has been in business for 14 years, but said she is uncertain about her future.

"I don't know yet.  I think I need a mini-vacation before we decide what to do here.  It's going to take time.  Once we know the full extent of the damage, we can make a decision about what's right," she said.
