Firefighter Accused of Sexually Assaulting Fellow Firefighter

An Old Lyme volunteer firefighter faces charges for sexually assaulting a fellow volunteer firefighter.

Brian Phaneuf, 35, answered to charges in court Monday.  He was released by police after posting a $100,000 bond.

In addition to charges of sexual assault, Phaneuf also faces charges of risk of injury to a minor.

State Police began investigating Phaneuf in Feburary after receiving a complaint. At the time, he was serving as a lieutenant in the fire department.

When asked for comment, Old Lyme's fire chief told NBC Connecticut Phaneuf resigned from the department on February 18.  He declined any further comment.
