Firefighters Respond to River Spill in Waterbury

Waterbury firefighters responded to a spill in the Naugatuck River.

According to fire officials, 20 gallons of Petroleum from an old Coal Tar Plant, located along the river, seeped into the water near 575 Bank Street.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Energy said booms are being set up along an area covering a quarter of a mile to keep it from spreading any further.

Residents are not in danger and the fire department will continue to monitor the situation.

A private company is expected to take care of the clean up.
