Former Cromwell High School Soccer Coach Accused of Sexually Assaulting Student

The charges stem from an investigation into allegations that former Cromwell High School assistant soccer coach Philip Russo had a sexual relationship with a student athlete.

A former Cromwell High School assistant soccer coach is accused of sexually assaulting a student athlete.

Philip Russo, 41, of Bloomfield, turned himself in to police on Wednesday. He is charged with second-degree sexual assault. The charges stem from an investigation into allegations Russo had a sexual relationship with a student athlete.

Russo resigned from his position with the Cromwell school district in May.

He was released on a $200,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on November 5.

Cromwell Public Schools Superintendent Enza Macri released the following statement:

"The district has been made aware of the alleged inappropriate conduct between a former coach and a student. We are fully cooperating with the Cromwell Police Department. As always, the safety of our students continues to be our number one priority."
