FIRST ALERT: Freezing Rain Creates Icy Roads for Morning Commute

Freezing rain fell across the state Wednesday night, which will make for icy roads for Thursday morning’s commute.

Accidents were reported statewide as a result of the slick roads. Up to a quarter inch of ice glaze is expected.

The rain should end by 5 a.m., but temperatures in many areas will remain below freezing through the morning commute and school delays are likely. New Britain Public Schools has already announced a two-hour delay for Thursday morning.

The ice will melt by afternoon with temperatures near 50.
