Funerals Planned for Marist Fire Victims

Eva Block, 21, of Woodbridge, and Kevin Johnson, 20, of New Canaan, were killed on Saturday morning.

Funeral services for a Woodbridge woman killed in a fire in Poughkeepsie, New York were held  Monday afternoon and services for a New Canaan man will be held on Friday.

Eva Block, 21, was one of three people who died in a fire that tore through a home near the campus of Marist College early Saturday morning. Block was a junior studying fashion at Marist, according to her family.

The school released a statement Sunday night.

"Eva had eclectic interests, all of which she brought to her work, which made her a young designer with tremendous potential. She will be deeply missed by the faculty and students of the fashion program and by the entire Marist community."

Authorities had not officially released the names of the other victims, but Kevin Johnson, 21, of New Canaan, who was visiting Marist, was also killed, according to the Connecticut Post. The third victim was identified as Kerry Fitzsimons, of Commack, New York, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

Services for Block were held on Monday at Abraham L. Greene and Son Funeral Home in Fairfield. Mourners were asked to arrive at 12:15 p.m. and the service began at 1 p.m.

Visitation for Johnson's family will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Hoyt Funeral Home,199 Main St., New Canaan. The funeral mass will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church.   

Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire.
