GOP: Dems to Raise Income Tax to Cover State Deficit

Democratic Leaders in Connecticut will unveil their tax and spending plans Thursday.
They say the budget is balanced, despite an estimated $7 billion dollar deficit over 2 years.

“We have cut more than the Governor’s cut.  We have cut more that’s ever been cut before in a state budget.  This is a tough budget, but it’s a budget for tough times”, State Senator Donald Willams (D) President Pro Tem said.

Republicans told NBC Connecticut’s Tom Monahan the Democrats’ plan will include major increases in the income tax and the elimination of exemptions in the sales and property taxes.
