Judge Denies Backing Ganim Bid for Law License

Joseph Ganim spent nearly seven years in prison for corruption.

The federal judge who sentenced former Bridgeport Mayor Joseph Ganim to nine years in prison for corruption is denying a claim she's backing Ganim's bid to get his law license back.

U.S. District Judge Janet Bond Arterton wrote in a court order released on Wednesday that she has taken no stand on Ganim's application for readmission to the bar. The order rejected Ganim's request to end his probation early.

A federal probation officer had said Arterton was supporting Ganim's effort to get his law license back during testimony on Monday before the Statewide Grievance Committee.

Ganim's license was suspended in March 2010 after he finished his prison sentence for bribery and racketeering.

The probation officer, Christopher Rogers, told The Hartford Courant that he soon will be clarifying his comments about Arterton.
