Snow Day! Schools Close and Commute Is Messy

Don't forget your scraper, a shovel and plenty of deicer because a winter storm is here and creating a huge mess.

The snow started falling around 3 a.m., just in time to slow your commute, especially in interior Connecticut. There is sleet in Manchester and we're hearing that there is quite a lot of slow-moving traffic in Wallingford. Interstate 91 is backed up and several people are having trouble on Route 10 in Farmington.

In Hartford, a car struck an apartment on Wethersfield Avenue and ruptured a gas main. The house has been evacuated.

Hundreds of schools have closed across the state and many others are delayed. The snow is piling up on roadways, causing dozens of accidents, most of which are being reported in the greater Hartford area.

Bradley International Airport is not experiencing big problems.

The snow could change to rain in much of the state by 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. New Haven could get 1 to 2 inches, while central Connecticut could get 3 to 5 inches.
