Google Your Way to Good Health

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is now using Google Maps to help Connecticut residents find the nearest health clinic when their doctor is unavailable.

The health insurance company's program locates the clinics and walk-in centers in Anthem's network and ads on search sites, including Google, Yahoo! and Bing, drive visitors to a Web site explaining when to use those centers in non-emergency situations.

The program is designed to save money in the form of reduced co-pays.

Depending on an Anthem member's benefits, emergency room co-pays can range from $75 to $100, while the co-pays at walk-in centers and retail health clinics are between $20 and $30.

Insurer WellPoint Inc. has also started using Google Maps for Web sites in several states.
