FIRST ALERT: Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Parts of Connecticut Until 7 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of Middlesex, New Haven, and New London counties until 6:30 p.m. and for Tolland and Windham counties until 7 p.m.

There are reports of hail in Tolland county.

An earlier tornado warning for Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties expired.

Bradley International Airport issued a ground stop as the severe weather moved through.

Eversource is reporting 2,701 outages, the majority in Vernon, Mansfield and Enfield. Vernon police confirmed they were responding to reports of downed trees and wires, particularly in Rockville.

Vernon Police tweeted a photo showing a downed tree on Prospect Street.

Viewers are reporting damage across Vernon as well as along route 32 in Mansfield.  We are also hearing reports of damage from viewers in Southington.

Just before 1 p.m., a severe thunderstorm watch was issued for the entire state until 9 p.m. 

UConn tweeted to students about the tornado warning and urged them to seek shelter immediately.

These storms are unrelated to Hurricane Dorian.
