Even the Governor Gets Parking Tickets

If you've spent any time in New Haven, you know that parking spots come at a premium. You also probably know that parking tickets are not-at-all uncommon. Now, Gov. Dannel Malloy knows that too.

Malloy, reports the New Haven Independent, left the city on Thursday with a ticket for $30. He was in New Haven for a lunch meeting with the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce and his driver parked the governor's Lincoln Town car right outside the Quinnipiack Club on Church Street.

After the meeting, Malloy was greeted with the ticket tucked inside a neat orange envelope tucked under his windshield wiper.

It seems his driver left the car sticking halfway into a "no parking" zone near a fire hydrant. There are "No Parking Anytime" signs on either side of the spot.

“Our parking enforcement officers strive to treat everyone equally,” city spokesman Adam Joseph told the Independent.

When asked if he intended to pay the ticket, Malloy said “That’s up to these guys,” referring to state Trooper Gary Williams, his driver for the day. “I don’t park.”

An aide emailed the Independent later, saying the governor planned to pay for the ticket personally and was dropping it in the mail.
