Residents in the town of Griswold have rejected a proposal to build a state police firearms training facility in town.
Residents voted Wednesday night not to support the plan to relocate the State of Connecticut shooting facility from Simsbury. The town voted 437 opposed, 63 in favor.
The vote is not a binding decision, but First Selectman Kevin Skulczyck says the residents' opinions have been made clear and that should dictate the actions the Board of Selectman take going forward.
“I have a feeling we will put together a resolution that says we don’t want this project in our community for the reasons rolling out” he said.
State Police have been searching for a new training ground because their current one in Simsbury is prone to flooding and the cost of repairs is high.
The state has received similar opposition from residents in other towns scouted as possible locations for the range.
