Group Needs Help to Build Dog Park

The group Friends of Wooster Square wants to build an enclosed dog run.

We’ve seen it happen in other cities and towns across the state, and now the pooches are pawing for a park in New Haven.

The group Friends of Wooster Square wants to build an enclosed dog run in a city park not far from the corner of Union and Chapel streets. There is no dog park closer than a 30-minute walk away.

They need $17,000 by Spring 2012 to build the dog park, according to the Friends’ Web page. The group has raised $1,000.

The New Haven Register reports that there’s a plan to install “Park Spark.” It apparently collects methane gas in the park for uses powering lamp posts.

Friends of Wooster Square hopes to have the park up and running by the summer.
