Hamden Dealership Sold Cars Without Registrations and Titles: DMV

If you bought a vehicle from Bernardo Motors in Hamden in the last six months, the state Department of Motor Vehicles wants to hear from you because they were sold without valid titles and registrations, according to the DMV.

DMV officials are not sure how many vehicles the 575 State Street dealership sold, but warned that car owners might be driving unregistered vehicles, which could affect some insurance  coverage for crashes, property damages and injuries.

DMV officials said customers were sold vehicles without titles, which establish ownership and are needed to sell the vehicle.

Customers have filed complaints with DMV showing more than $7,000 in claims against the company, which David Taylor of Branford, owned, according to the DMV.

The DMV revoked Bernardo Motors’ license in May and said the company owes more than $200,000 in state sales tax.

Customers who have vehicles bought vehicles from the former dealership should call the DMV's Consumer Complaint Center at 860-263-5405 to discuss the validity of both their registrations and titles.
