Hamden Man is New Haven's First Homicide Victim

A 24-year-old Hamden man is New Haven’s first homicide victim of 2011.

Jerome William Brown was shot in the head on Jan. 11, at 10:06 p.m. while he sat in his vehicle in front of 771 Dixwell Ave, police said.

He had been on life support since the shooting and was pronounced dead on Jan. 16 at 6:42 p.m. at the Hospital of St. Raphael

Shortly after the shooting, detectives from the New Haven Police Department Major Crimes Unit arrested Lavarr Fraiser, 19, of Hamden, who is accused of shooting Brown and Adrian Redmond.

Redmond was shot in the arm and is expected to make a full recovery.

Fraiser was initially charged with first-degree assault but the charge will upgraded to murder, police said.
