Hammer Attack Suspect Back in State

Randy Breton was brought back to the U.S. last week.

The man suspected of attacking three people with a hammer on Dec. 29 in New Britain is now in Connecticut.

Randy Breton, 41, is accused of assaulting his former girlfriend, Josephine Lavallee; her 16-year-old daughter; and Sean Logan, 18, inside a home on Columbus Boulevard early that morning.

Police found Breton in Montreal, Canada, after he used a cell phone to call his father, Lavallee said.

Breton appeared before a judge in Canada on Jan. 10 and was brought back to New Britain on Friday, Jan. 27.

Canadian authorities turned Breton over to U.S. marshals in New York and New York State Police charged him as a fugitive from Justice. Breton appeared in court in New York and waived his right to fight extradition to Connecticut.

New Britain Police detectives traveled to New York late last week and brought Breton to New Britain.

He has been charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, second-degree assault, risk of injury to or impairing the morals of children, violation of a protective order, third-degree larceny and third-degree assault.

He is being held on $1 million bond and will be arraigned on Jan. 30 in New Britain Court.
