Hammer Attack Suspect Found in Canada

Teen victim had to have part of his skull removed.

New Britain police have been looking for the suspect in a violent hammer attack last month and the man has been found in Canada.

Police had been looking for Randy Breton, 41, since Dec. 29, after an assault on Columbus Avenue in New Britain.

Breton and barged into the Columbus Avenue home around 6:45 a.m. on Dec. 29, where Sean Logan, 18, was staying with his girlfriend and his girlfriend's mother, police said.

Breton is the ex-boyfriend of the 36-year-old mom, police said. The woman, and her daughter were not as seriously injured as Logan.

"He had to have part of his skull removed. He had skull fragments removed from his brain," Melissa Logan, Sean mother, said. "It's beyond repair. He now has titanium mesh instead of a skull."

Sean Logan has since been released from the hospital, his mother said.

After the attack, Breton fled in a tan 2002 Chevrolet Venture van with Rhode Island license plate #679454. The van has a replacement Oldsmobile rear hatch door, police said.

New Britain police said Breton entered Canada illegally and is being held on immigration-related charges.

He will appear before a judge in Canada on Jan. 10 to address his immigration status and the probability for deportation.

New Britain police have obtained a warrant for charges related to the attack.
