A Hartford police officer was arrested Saturday morning after a fight with his girlfriend and man who was in the couple’s home.
Officer Christopher White, 34, was arrested shortly before 3 a.m. after police were called for a domestic dispute to the home he, the woman and their children share on Bernardino Avenue in Enfield, police said.
White’s attorney, Kyle Macci, told the Hartford Courant that White had attended the funeral of two Bridgeport firefighters on Friday and was supposed to work an overtime shift early Saturday in Hartford, but canceled because he was tired.
When he arrived at his home early Saturday morning, he suspected that someone other than his family was in the house, Macci told the newspaper.
White told police he thought he was defending himself against an intruder and grabbed a handgun. The man – who turned out to be a guest of White’s girlfriend -- tackled White and punched him, police said.
"Unbenownst to him, this person was a guest of his girlfriend, the mother of his children," Macci told the newspaper.
White was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of threatening, two counts of assault, two counts of breach of peace and illegal possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.

He was booked and released from police custody several hours later on a $75,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Enfield Superior Court on Monday morning.
"This is an internal investigation and I am not giving comment as this time," police chief Daryl Roberts said. "The department is reserving judgment until (it) learn(s) more information."
White, who is also part of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, was arrested by state police in October 2004 for a road rage incident on Interstate 91. He was assigned to a desk job at police headquarters following that incident.
