Man Charged With Arson After Fire in Hartford

Hartford firefighters battled two fires in the capital city Saturday evening and authorities determined one of them was set intentionally.

Crews responded to 14 Brook St. at 4:44 p.m. and found the three-family home consumed by fire.

Everyone who had been inside was able to escape. 

Three families were displaced and one person who inhaled smoke was transported to St. Francis Hospital for treatment.

Police were able to identify an arson suspect with the help of witnesses and quickly arrested Angel Ares, who was listed as a resident of the building.

The 36-year-old was charged with arson, criminal mischief, eight counts of reckless endangerment and four counts of risk of injury. 

Bond for Ares was set at $750,000 and he is due in court on March 13.

Around the same time, crews responded to a house fire at 363 Zion St. Resources were strained and mutual aid was requested, fire officials said.

Eleven people were displaced by the fire on Zion Street, Ortiz said.

Both fires were placed under control Saturday night, according to Hartford Fire Chief Raul Ortiz.
