Hartford Man Accused of Tornado Looting

Three men were stealing siding for a Springfield home.

A Hartford man is accused of stripping aluminum siding from a home in the tornado-ravaged area of Springfield, Massachusetts on Thursday.

An officer was patrolling the area at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday to prevent looting and breaking and entering and found three men taking siding off 190 William St., police said.

When the officer approached the men, they dropped the aluminum, police said. As the officer was handcuffing one of the men, he said he thought the house was abandoned “and we could just take what we want,” police said.

The home was surrounded by bright orange construction fence with a sign that said, “no looting,” according to police.

Police arrested German Canales Romero, 23, of Hartford, and Luis Colomba, 18, and Luis Perez, 17, both of Springfield. They were charged with larceny and trespassing.
