Hartford Sergeant Hurt in Crash With Stolen Car

A Hartford police sergeant suffered minor injuries when a man driving a stolen car struck his cruiser on Irving Street early Monday morning, according to police.

Police said the sergeant was pursing the stolen car and tried to block it into the driveway of 109 Irving Street around 3 a.m. Monday.

He got out and tried to take the driver into custody, at which point the suspect accelerated and drove into his cruiser, according to police. The sergeant suffered a minor hand injury and the stolen car got away.

Police said the sergeant was treated at a local hospital.

Authorities are searching for a white 2006 Hyundai Tiburon with Connecticut license plates 2CH747. The driver is desribed as a man with black braided hair and a light complexion. Hew as wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with a red shirt underneath, according to police.

Police said two other men and one woman were in the car with him at the time of the crash.
