Hartford Police Investigate Two Reports of Sex Assault

Police took a report of a sexual assault on Maple Avenue on Wednesday and another on Farmington Avenue on Thursday.

Hartford police are investigating a teen girl's claim she was raped in broad daylight while walking home from school.

The alleged attack along Farmington Avenue near the Mark Twain House Thursday. The girl's mother received a call that her daughter was in the hospital.

“Your first thoughts are oh my god what’s wrong?,” the woman said. NBC Connecticut did not reveal the woman's identity, to protect her daughter's privacy. “My heart dropped and I just raced over a million thoughts are in your head.”

According to the victim, she had just fished class at the Lincoln Culinary Institute and was walking along Farmington Avenue when a man snuck up on her, pulled her into the bushes, and raped her.

“She said she was screaming at him and screaming for help and no one helped her she said it was only a matter of few minutes,” the victim's mother said.

Police were investigating a similar incident on Maple Avenue. A told police Wednesday that she had been sexually assaulted in the middle of the day. Police said the cases don't appear to be related.

“That's very scary. I’m a mother of three daughters and I have a son and I live in this area that's scary,” said Ancilla Herrera.  “It’s kinda busy that's why you wouldn't expect anything like that."

The mother of the teen victim hopes someone will come forward if they witnessed the attack.

“This isn't the first one and it's not going to be the last and there needs to be something done,” she said.
