Hartford Police Recover Tactical Rifle in Wooded Area

Hartford Police have recovered a tactical rifle that was being stored in a wooded area on Saturday.

Members of the Hartford Police Street Crimes Unit said they received information about the location of a tactical rifle that was being stored in a wooded area near Ledyard Street.

After an extensive search of the area, police said they found a James Madison Tactical .223 caliber rifle with a 30 round magazine and ten live rounds right alongside the road. Officers said the rifle was likely left there for someone else to quickly pick up.

The rifle also had a scope and stabilizing bipod, officers said.

The weapon was recovered and turned into the property room at Hartford Police Department, where it will be analyzed further.

Officers are investigating how the weapon ended up in the wooded area.
