Hartford Police Solve 2012 Cold Case

Hartford police say they've solved a 2012 killing with the help of DNA evidence and forensic expert Henry Lee.

Deputy Police Chief Brian Foley said Monday that detectives have obtained a warrant charging 42-year-old Denzil Nurse with murder in the beating death of Sonia Rivera. Nurse is in prison on unrelated burglary charges and will be brought to court soon to be charged in the killing.

Police said Rivera was found behind a building with a head wound and her pants pulled down in September 2012. She died two days later.

Foley says DNA evidence and Lee helped solved the case. Lee is a former head of the state crime lab and ex-state public safety commissioner who has worked on numerous high-profile criminal cases.

It's not clear if Nurse has a lawyer.
