Police ID Hartford Homicide Victim



    Man Dead After Shooting in Hartford

    A man is dead after being shot in Hartford Friday morning. Police said he was shot on Mather Street.

    A 55-year-old Hartford man is dead after a shooting early Friday morning and police are investigating the case a homicide.

    Hartford police responded to Mather Street around 1 a.m. after ShotSpotter detected gunshots and officers found the victim, Melvin Baskerville, of Hartford, in a stairwell of a residential building. He had been shot in the neck and hip and was taken to St. Francis Hospital for emergency surgery.

    Police said Baskerville was pronounced dead just before 7 a.m.

    Police said someone reported seeing three people running away from the area. Hartford Police Major Crimes is investigating.

    Anyone who saw anything is asked to call police.
