Heat Closes Downtown Hartford Supermarket

Mechanical failure forces the supermarket in downtown Harford to close.

The extreme heat last week is causing lingering problems for The Market at 21 in Hartford.

The supermarket in downtown Hartford is closed until further notice because all the perishable foot was ruined when the store suffered mechanical and refrigeration problems on Friday night, according to the market’s Web site

Anything that could be saved was donated to homeless shelters, store officials said.

They hope to reopen soon.

Local officials long-awaited the supermarket and said the lack of a grocery store was keeping people from moving downtown. The store opened in March.
