The NBC Connecticut meteorologists have issued a First Alert for high temperatures across the state. A heat advisory is in effect for all of Connecticut. Heat index values are expected to range between 100 to 105 degrees.
The heat advisory is in effect through Tuesday evening. Gov. Dannel Malloy isssued a statement reminding residents to take precautions during the excessive heat and humidity. Those looking for a place to avoid the heat can find the nearest cooling center by calling 211.
“Excessively high temperatures can be dangerous for peoples’ health, especially among the elderly, young children, and those who work outdoors,” Malloy said. “Drink lots of water, stay in the shade, and please keep an eye on those who are at greatest risk.”
High temperatures could also lead to a heat wave for the beginning of the week.
Things become more humid with highs around 90 on Tuesday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible in the western part of the state on Tuesday.
Drier weather returns on Thursday and Friday as the warm stretch continues into next week.
