Seven Connecticut cities are splitting $25 million in federal funds to repair or demolish abandoned homes in blighted and borderline neighborhoods.
The money is going to Hartford, Bridgeport, New Britain, New Haven, Stamford, Meriden and Waterbury.
The grant allows the cities to either demolish the blighted homes or repair and sell them to help bolster the neighborhoods.
Officials said it is not a rescue plan to give relief to people facing foreclosure.
However, they said people who abandoned the houses or lost the properties to banks and financing companies when they were unable to pay their mortgages once owned many of the affected homes.
