Trading in Military Weapons for Ice Picks

Trading weapons for saws and other tree removal equipment, members of the Connecticut National Guard are heading north to help with the cleanup from the ice storm.

The ice storm last Friday left hundreds of thousands of New Englanders and upstate New Yorkers without electricity.

Twenty five soldiers from the 192nd Engineer Battalion of Stratford left Tuesday from Hartford.  They will help clear roads of downed trees, limbs and other debris.

About 77,000 homes in Western Massachusetts remain in the dark.  The soldiers are expected to be in Massachusetts until Saturday.

Most of the power problems in Connecticut's Northwest hills have been fixed.
