Heroes For Hire

They've completed their duty, many of them serving in some of the world's most dangerous spots.  Now, servicemen and women are coming home and they're looking for jobs.

For many of them, it's not been easy.  One veteran said he's been home for more than five years and still has yet to find work.  Others who are just coming home say they know the job market is tight.

But Veterans Affairs Commissioner Linda Schwartz says there is hope.  At a "Heroes 4 Hire" job fair in the ballroom at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Schwartz steered job-seekers to different state agencies and to representatives of private companies.

Jacob Dziemaszkicwicz of Bristol he's interest in a job with the State Police, the Department of Corrections, or a security agency.  He says the job fair is perfect for networking and that he's taking advantage of it.

And James Perez, an Army specialist from Bloomfield, says he wants to be able to transfer his skills to something that is more than being a combat soldier.  He's looking for something instead of, as he put it, "always thinking mission, mission, mission".

Commissioner Schwartz says the job fair is an important part of helping many returning veterans get back into the community and back into the workplace.
