High School Wrestling Coach Charged With Sex Assaults

A wrestling coach faced a judge Tuesday on charges he sexually assaulted two brothers who were members of the New Fairfield Wrestling Club.

Greg Heinzer, 29, pleaded not guilty in Superior Court in Danbury, the Connecticut Post reported.

An arrest warrant affidavit shows State Police had been investigating a complaint against Heinzer by a 12-year-old boy, when the boy's 10-year-old brother said he had also been assaulted, according to the paper.

Heinzer, who is the wrestling coach at New Fairfield High School, is a volunteer at the New Fairfield Wrestling club.

In the affidavit, investigators said Heinzer became close with the victims' family, even staying with them during wrestling trips, the paper reported.

The alleged abuse began last October and continued until this month, when the older boy told his father, according to the Connecticut Post.

Heinzer is charged with two counts of aggravated first-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and six counts of risk of injury to a minor. He is free on $250,000 bond.
