Arrest in Mansfield Home Invasion

Two schools were locked down as police looked for a home invasion suspect.

State police have made an arrest in connection with a home invasion in Mansfield.

Anibal Carrero, 40, of Mansfield, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a home invasion on Derek Road. in Mansfield on Sept. 4.

According to state police, five masked and armed men went into the home, tied up two victims and robbed them.

State police detectives identified suspects and were trying to serve a warrant for Carrero at his 281 Coventry Road home on Wednesday morning but Carrero recognized a surveillance vehicle from previous incidents with law enforcement and ran through the woods, according to police.

Vinton Elementary and Mansfield Middle were on lockdown from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. as a precaution while police searched for Carrero.

The State Police K-9 Unit was training at Routes 44 and 32 in Mansfield and was called to assist. The State Police Air Unit was also contacted and responded.

A K-9 Staff Instructor and his K-9 Wyatt found Carrero in a wooded area approximately three miles from the house. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop C for processing on the above charges.  

Carrero was held on a $75,000 cash bond and will be arraigned at Rockville Superior Court on Sept. 13.

Police said additional arrest warrants are anticipated and will be served on the other four suspects involved.

He was charged with home invasion, armed robbery, burglary in the first degree, robbery in the first degree, kidnapping in the first degree and false statement in the second degree.
