Hotcakes That Feed The Soul in Orange

A cool story of thanks for this holiday...

It happens every year on Thanksgiving.  It is a way to give back and, yes, eat pancakes.

Every person eating pancakes today at Chips Restaurant in Orange is actually helping others.  And every person flipping, serving and clearing is helping too.  All the money goes to charity.

"People are very generous, actually.  People leave an extra $20 for a tip because they know where it's going," said Dina, working at Chips on Thanksgiving morning.

Here's how it works.  Chips picks a different charity each year.  This year, they chose an organization that helps people with disabilities called Marrakech.  The organization is based in nearby Woodbridge.

"Traditionally, we serve people with mental retardation. Although, at this point, we serve people who are homeless, people who have a psychiatric disability and people with an acquired brain injury," explained Frank McCarthy of Marrakech.

And Thursday, the hotcakes were going like - well, you know.

It was a sweet deal for the many folks who dropped by because they like the flapjacks and also like helping to feed someones soul.

"It'll be a full house, I'm sure," beamed volunteer Walt Vespuda.
