    Horses Escape Barn Fire in Newtown

    A massive fire destroyed a barn at a horse farm in Newtown on Thursday morning.

    A massive fire destroyed a barn at Long Meadow Horse Farm in Newtown early Thursday morning.

    Firefighters from several departments responded to the farm on Meadowbrook Road.

    The barn had an apartment in it at it was being rented at the time, according to fire officials.

    The tenant was able to escape.

    There were horses in the barn at the time of the fire and they were able to get out unharmed as well, fire officials said.

    No one was injured.

    It is not yet clear what started the fire.

    The town is bringing in an excavator to tear down the remainder of the building.
