Husband Helped Wife Steal from Her Grandmother: Police

An East Hartford man was arrested on Monday, accused of helping his wife rob her own grandmother’s South Windsor home.

January Vasquez called her grandmother’s house on May 8, identified herself as a staff member of Manchester Hospital, and told the woman her son had been in an accident and was hospitalized, police told the Hartford Courant

The South Windsor family members at the house went to the hospital, only to learn it was a hoax.

The man was not there and when they returned home, they found their house had been burglarized.

Police said they were able to trace the call to January Vasquez, who placed the call to get her family out of the house while her husband, Herminio Vazquez committed the actual burglary.

Herminio, who was incarcerated on an unrelated charge, was charged with first-degree burglary, third-degree larceny and first-degree conspiracy to commit burglary and third-degree larceny.

He was held on a $50,000 surety bond and was brought to Manchester Superior Court on Tuesday to be served with the South Windsor arrest warrant.

January was arrested on June 14.
