Icy Rain Causes Slippery Conditions, Damage Across CT

An icy mix fell in parts of the state Saturday, leading to some dangerous conditions and causing damage as the weight of the ice took down tree limbs and wires.

Freezing rain coated roads, driveways and sidewalks through inland areas of Connecticut and continued through midday.

Ice buildup caused tree limbs and wires to fall, taking down power lines and knocking out power to at least 688 customers in Middletown, 633 in Berlin, and smaller outages elsewhere, Eversource confirmed.

Crews in West Hartford were called to multiple reports of trees and wires down, including this scene on Mountain Road Saturday afternoon.
