Three Injured in Middletown Fire

One person suffered burns over much of his body.

Three people have been injured in a fire at 159  East Main St. in Middletown.

One man suffered severe burns over much of his body, according to fire officials.  A witness told NBC Connecticut he saw an elderly man with burns on his arms and legs being taken from the scene.

"They claimed he was pulling the curtain down that caught on fire he was trying to pull them down off the window," David Coleman, a resident of the building said.

Two other people received minor injuries during the two-alarm fire at a four-family house.

The house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at 8:30 a.m., fire officials said.

Officials believe the fire started on the first floor and moved to the second floor. What caused the fire is not yet known.

The state Department of Environmental Protection warns that the fire danger is high today and higher when winds are gusting, which could cause problems for controlling a blaze.
