When Good Lawmakers Go Bad

We all hope our lawmakers follow the laws. But sometimes they just don’t cross their “T’s” and dot their “I’s” like they’re supposed to.

That has Republicans in the Connecticut Senate renewing their push for a more strict process to investigate misconduct among fellow lawmakers.

Lawmakers are taking sides with their parties on the issue.

Last week, a resolution to create an internal ethics committee died. Republicans are proposing that complaints could only come from fellow senators, not the public.  They'd also have ad hoc committees formed for each case, rather than having a standing committee.

On the other side of the aisle, Democrats say they worry the process could be abused for partisan purposes, and they favor letting the state’s ethics and elections enforcement commissions handle the issues.

Its not clear if this issue will be settled by the time the season ends at midnight on Wednesday.

Oh, politicians...
